JAY REATARD Found Dead

The internet is abuzz with rumors of Jay Reatard’s death. It looks like it may have started at the GONER Message Board. Now BrooklynVegan is running with it.  I’ll try to keep this puppy updated as well.

UPDATED 4:16 EST
Wow, looks like it’s true.

Memphis police have opened a death investigation, spokesman Jennifer Robinson said. Lindsey was found around 3:30 a.m. in his bed, Robinson said.

“Yeah, it’s true,” friend Alicja Trout said. “I don’t know much about it yet, because I haven’t been able to get in touch with the police.”

Added Eric Friedl of Goner Records: “Yeah. He was found at his house. That’s all I know right now.”

Even if you aren’t the biggest fan of his music or his attitude it’s absolutely tragic when anyone under the age of 30 dies. Here’s a video of Jay playing live outside the Sailor Jerry store in Philly.

BREAKING: American Idiot Musical Will Be Stupid/Embarrassing

If I was the kind of person who said things like “I just threw up in my mouth a little bit”, this is probably something that would make me say it.

Panda Bear Talks About New Record

It’s kind of douchey to report something already linked by Pitchfork but anything Animal Collective related is always appreciated by the AVERSE boys, and here we have an interview with Panda Bear talking about his process and upcoming record:

Yeah, it’s going pretty good. It’s been a long process. I’ve thought about it for a long time while we were doing the Merriweather stuff, so I had a long gestation process in my mind but only really started cracking on it in September. It’s kind of scary doing something totally different, like I’ve been working in a sampler zone for five or six years now. It definitely feels like a new zone, its scary but also exciting as well.

The beatles Complete on Ukulele

File this one under “weird shit I never knew existed”:

Roger and Dave present The 2nd Annual Beatles Complete On Ukulele Festival. (…)
All 185 Beatles songs will be performed at the two day festival by over 60 singers, 40 musicians and 16 Yoko impersonators.

For those interested it’s On Saturday December 5th and Sunday December 6th from 2PM till 10PM at 213 North 8th St (between Driggs and Roebling) in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. I think I might check it out, despite Thom’s insistence that my recent Beatles love is troublesome.
